KATHMANDU, Feb 26: The pilot and co-pilot were killed when an Air Kasthamandap aircraft bound to Jumla from Nepalgunj, with 11 people on board, crash-landed in Kalikot district on Friday.
Pilot Dinesh Neupane and Co-pilot Santosh Rana died in the incident, said our Nepalgunj correspondent Arjun Oli quoting Nepalgunj Airport sources.
The aircraft with call sign 9N8AB crashlanded at Chilakhaya 2, Jigeli in the district, acording to Chief District Officer of Kalikot, Pradip Shrestha.
The passengers have been identified as Megharaj Giri, Ganesh Bhattachan, Sonali Bhattachan, Laxmi Sunar, Govinda Bhandari, Laxman Khadka , Dhananjaya Khatri and Jagadamba Khatri. All nine passengers are reported injured.
"The condition of the plane was not good. But, do not panic. We will land the plane safely. We will save you all passengers even at the cost of our lives," the injured passenger said, quoting the deceased pilot. READ MORE: Pilot Neupane had vowed to save passengers
The aircraft had taken off at 12:30 pm from Nepalgunj today.
Security teams from Nepal Army and Nepal Police from both Julma and Kalikot have left for the accident site accoring to Acting CDO of Jumla.
All injured passengers brought to Nepalgunj
All injured passengers of Air Kasthamandap have been ferried to Nepalgunj for the further treatment via helicopter. They are receiving treatment at Nepalgunj Medical College, Kohalpur.
Co-pilot was former minister's son
Co-pilot Santosh Rana who died in Air Kasthmandap plane crash was the youngest son of former Land Reform Minister Dal Bahadur Rana. He had completed his airline course from Philippines.
Santosh began flying after completing airline course in the United States. He had joined Air Kasthamandap on last April.
Rana was a resident of Palpa. He was unmarried.
