Nawalparasi leaves Rupandehi, Kapilvastu behind in sanitation

NAWALPARASI, March 1: A study conducted by Drinking Water and Sanitation Coordination Committee (DWSCC) has shown that Nawalparasi district is the most hygienic among the three districts of Lumbini zone.

The study was conducted in Rupandehi, Kapilvastu and Nawalparasi districts. The study showed that the use of toilet was more common in Nawalparasi district than the other two districts.

“We found that many use toilets in the hill districts but do not pay much attention to sanitation due to lack of water,” said Shambhu Prashad Shah, district coordinator of DWSCC.

As many as 128,103 toilets have been constructed in Nawalparasi and the district has already been declared an Open Defecation Free (ODF) zone. To give continuity to the ODF status and encourage sanitation, DWSCC has launched projects in 10 VDCs. “We have launched the projects in 10 VDCs to further improve the sanitation status of the district,” informed Local Development Officer Lal Krishna Poudel.
