Karna's hat-trick secures final place for Jhapa
ILAM, Feb 3: Karna Limbu's hat-trick inspired Jhapa XI to a comprehensive 4-0 win over 10-man Rupandehi XI in the Mai Valley Gold Cup football tournament on Wednesday. Jhapa XI skipper Narendramani Limbu scored another goal against Rupandehi at Ilam football ground to secure a place in the final. All four goals came in the second half.

Jhapa will meet the winner of the second semifinal match to be played between Tribhuvan Army Club and APF Club on Thursday. The final is scheduled for Saturday.
Narendramani gave Jhapa the lead in the 53rd minute and Karna doubled the advantage just a minute later. Karna scored two more goals in the extra time of second half to complete the rout.

After playing goalless first half, both the teams adopted attacking approach in the second half and Jhapa. However, it was Jhapa that dominated Rupandehi, which came under pressure after its player, Bijay Dhimal, was shown a red card by the referee. Bijay received the card after manhandling Jhapa's Ganesh Khadka.

Besides the goals, both the teams also wasted number of chances in the match. Jhapa's Karna and Bishal Rai failed on many occasions.

"Our players were quite inactive and did not meet my expectation. However, I am happy that the team advanced into the final," Jhapa coach Bhagirath Ale said.

Similarly, Rupandehi team manager Jaggu Nath Kha blamed that his side faced defeat following the mis judgment of the referee.

"We lost the match due to poor judgment of the referee," he said.

The winner and runner-up of the tournament will bag Rs 300,000 and Rs 175,000 respectively.
