KATHMANDU, Dec 23: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday demanding action against Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala´s son in-law Rubel Chaudhary for his involvement in several scams over the past five years.
Writ petitioner Daindra Bahadur Thakuri has demanded necessary orders from SC to initiate legal action against Chaudhary, who allegedly was the mastermind behind several scams.
The petition also claims that the authorities have let Rubel off the hook as he has been getting political protection from his mother in-law and Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala.
“Bangladeshi nationals Asef Fujman and Nisar Ahamad are currently in police custody on the charge of bypassing international calls but Rubel, who, according to recent media reports is mastermind behind the scam, has been getting political protection,” reads the petition.
The petitioner has accused Rubel of his involvement in the Sudan scam. “Rubel was the mastermind behind the multimillion Sudan scam. According to the findings of State Affairs Committee of parliament, multi millions rupees was embezzled while purchasing Armored Personnel Carriers for Nepali peace mission deployed in Darfur of Sudan,” states the petition.
The petitioner has claimed Rubel was illegally appointed as a consultant for Sushma Koirala Memorial Trust. Rubel has also been accused of misusing relationship visa he had acquired for staying in Nepal.
Prime Minister Madhav Nepal, Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala, Home Minister Bhim Rawal, Nepal Police chief Ramesh Chand Thakuri and Rubel Chaudhary have been made defendants in the petition.
