KATHMANDU, July 16: The B Division clubs have elected five members on Thursday to represent the clubs in the forthcoming All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) general assembly to be held on September 7.
Thirteen B Division clubs unanimously elected Chyasal Youth Club, Gyan Bhairab Club, Star Club, Samajik Yuva Club and Birgunj Youth Academy as their representatives for the ANFA election.
The newly approved statute of ANFA, drafted by ANFA and Nepal Football Association (NFA), which were earlier at loggerheads, to end the dispute in Nepal´s football, has guaranteed B and C Division clubs´ participation in the ANFA election for the first time.
Chyasal, Samajik and Birgunj were promoted to B Division from C Division league last year. Star and Gyan Bhairab were involved with NFA which was fighting with ANFA and separately organized B division football league. After ANFA and NFA buried the hatchets, there are 13 B Division clubs.
FIFA had approved the statute after some corrections during its meeting held in Malaysia two months ago. The statute was passed and issued by ANFA three weeks ago after a meeting held in Chitwan. As per the new statute, 72 members can participate in ANFA election. The eligible voters in ANFA election are 40 DFA members, one member each from 20 A Division clubs, five members from B Division clubs, three from C Division clubs and one representative each from national players, women football players, coaches and referees.
C Division football clubs are yet to select their members while 17 District Football Associations (DFA) are also preparing to hold election in their respective districts.
Incumbent ANFA president Ganesh Thapa has already announced his candidacy in the upcoming election. Geeta Rana has announced to fight against Thapa.
